Imports of raw animal hair rise by 30.39%

The global trade value of animal hair (not carded or combed) has been increasing with high growth rate. Total trade increased by 55.78 per cent from 2013 to 2019, according to data from TexPro. Importing of raw animal hair is the major contributor to the total trade and it accounted for approximately 90 per cent of the total trade in 2018.

The global trade of animal hair was $804.08 million in 2016, which increased to $1,040.54 million in 2018. The total trade has risen by 20.77 per cent in 2018 over the previous year and is anticipated to reach $1,551.38 million in 2021 with a CAGR of 13.76 per cent from 2018, according to Fibre2Fashion's market analysis tool TexPro.

The global export of animal hair was $82.04 million in 2016, which increased by 20.79 per cent to $99.10 million in 2018. Total exports moved up by 16.68 per cent in 2018 over the previous year and is expected to reach $149.73 million in 2021 with a CAGR of 9.91 per cent from 2018.  

The global import of animal hair was $722.04 million in 2016, which escalated by 30.39 per cent to $941.44 million in 2018. Total exports rose by 21.21 per cent in 2018 over the previous year and is expected to reach $1,401.65 million in 2021 with a CAGR of 14.19 per cent from 2018.  

Italy ($41.31 million), UK ($22.91 million) and Peru ($6.06 million) were the key exporters of animal hair across the globe in 2018, together comprising of 70.91 per cent of total export. These were followed by Germany ($5.06 million), US ($4.69 million), South Africa ($4.19 million) and Belgium ($4.11 million).  

From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Peru (278.32 per cent) and Italy (122.17 per cent).  

Italy ($623.34 million), China ($144.63 million) and UK ($105.73 million) were the key importers of animal hair across the globe in 2018, together comprising 92.80 per cent of total import. These were distantly followed by Japan ($15.88 million), Germany ($12.89 million), South Africa ($7.61 million) and India ($5.90 million).  

From 2013 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of import, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Italy (110.98 per cent) and UK (54.36 per cent).
